PWC ENDURANCE CREED
To qualify as 'offshore', an event must travel further than 2 miles from a promintory point of land, have a minimum (equivalent in kilometers, not nautical) mile distance exceeding 35 miles or more from one point to another.

To quality as endurance, an athlete and boat will be pushed to the barriers of fuel consumption, water acreage traveled, distance, time and environmental factors, but not limited to laps counted (10 mile laps or similar longer distances) in measured distance, point of reference from a start or stopped location or a timed interval staged competition. Also may incorporate a 'pit crew or team' for refueling needs.

EXPEDITIONS
Defined as long distance touring or expeditions that cover waterways typically down rivers or along coastal communities and are extreme by nature of the distance traveled. These are not competitions, and can be charity runs or group/club activities.

There are three significant events in racing that took place to develop the Offshore-Endurance format of Personal Watercraft Racing. (Region 1-IJSBA Sanctioned events)

1. The Vegas JetSkiers in Region 1 created their 50 mile Race at Lake Mead, Nevada USA. The conditions in 1988 were historic! High winds created choppy steep inclines on the swells. Stand Up watercraft were being raced in those days, requiring the racers to have a high skill level to survive, let alone finish! This was the gauntlet for long distances!

2. BC Racing in Region 1. Brad Cuthbertson started Gran-Prix's. These were 8-12 mile offshore races, many of which were enjoyed originally by again, 'stand up' racers. and they were featured at his surf races, which led the Gran Prix riders offshore. His events launched the grassroots embed of the theme 'offshore'.

3. BP Productions in Region 1. Lou and Lois Peralta produced the mega-heavy purist events for true endurance at heart racers. Closed course racing was the PWC favorite, but not all riders were interested in this format. BP Productions created a series in 1994 that set the format as a global assault for testing man/woman and machine in unison with the open waters of their regions. His race series were formatted in 5 races set in Baja California of 100 miles each with the exception of the LB2CAT. The Long Beach to Catalina and Back was a long standing race for water skiers, Lou picked it up and placed personal watercraft into the lineup. At that time, re-fueling was done at Catalina and the 2 stages were timed and combined, 'there and back', for a total of 58 miles. This was when you could compete at this event on a stand up. Those were the best of times!

Those of us who raced during the creative years have the best memories from the hardest racing ever experienced in offshore! Thanks to these three groups for their historical lineage!

2000 LB2CAT Commentary...

Long Beach to Catalina- Race was fogged out. BP made an effort and produced a race course around one of the inner islands for a paltry 45 min. Race conditions were extra choppy, with many boats to navigate. The waves were fun to jump. A few "stragglers" were spotted not going around the island. Nothing was said, I'm sure. 5 Madhouse boats started the race, and 5 boats finished. Afterwards, we found a burnt electrical item in Jason's ski, and a very, very burnt front piston in Mark's ski. Krista Chapman's first race! She bested Rob and Mark, while navigating those undercurrents Tracy finished ahead of everyone but Jason. A small war has broken out between 2 un-named racers. It seems the battle will be fought in the next LB to Cat. Stay tuned!!!

Our other new racer never showed up. Rumor has it, he was found floating in the ocean the day before...

Jason: Triple Pipe machine finishes its FIRST race in 2 years. 6th Overall!!!
Tracy: Bag's another 1st place am/stock open.
Krista: First race... watch them undercurrents.
Rob: Decides not to stop and change spark plugs.
Mark: Showed up, burned ski and back.

Physically challenged racer Erica Davis. Paralyzed from the waist down, the only addition to her Kawasaki Ultra LX are foam chocks to help keep her legs stable in the rough open ocean conditions.

Here we are training off of Camp Pendleton, CA in 2009.
